Baby's Development: Week 29: Baby's Muscles Strengthen

Baby's Development

Your baby is looking more like a newborn! They can open and close their eyes and turn their head. Their brain has developed significantly. They weigh just over 1 kg (2.2 pounds) now. Your baby will often get the hiccups as they swallow amniotic fluid. This week marks an important milestone: their brain has matured to the point where it can help regulate their body temperature, although they still rely on your body heat for warmth. Nerve cells are continuously developing in their brain; by birth, they will have hundreds of billions of them. This seems like a lot, but they won't produce any more after birth. The baby's crown-to-rump length is 26 cm (10.2 inches), and they weigh between 1100-1250 grams (2.4-2.75 pounds). They are about two-thirds of their final size. The baby is picking up body fat and filling out, preparing for life outside the womb.
