The fetus is now roughly 1.2 inches (about 3 cm) long and weighs about 2.5 grams (0.09 ounces). The head, while still large, is becoming more proportionate to the body. All the vital organs – liver, kidneys, brain, lungs, and intestines – are now fully formed and functional, although they will continue to mature throughout the remainder of the pregnancy. The ears are continuing to develop, and the eyelids are now covering the eyes, protecting them as they mature. Tooth buds are developing under the gums, preparing for your baby's future smile. Fingernails and toenails are beginning to grow. Remarkably, your baby already has a unique set of fingerprints! The muscles in the trunk, limbs, and head are developing, allowing for more coordinated movements (which you still won't feel). While the male and female genitalia are developing, they still look very similar at this stage, so it's usually too early to determine the sex on an ultrasound. The development of the heart is now complete. Your baby is starting to look more recognizably like a baby now. The baby's crown-to-rump length is 20 mm (0.75 inches), and the baby weighs about 2 grams.
