Claiming the Grace of Your Bloodline: A Legacy for Your Children
"That they may believe that the Lord, the God of their fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has appeared to you." - Exodus 4:5
"I AM the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? He is not the God of the dead but of the living." - Matthew 22:32
"So Joshua said to the sons of Israel, “How long will you put off entering to take possession of the land which the Lord, the God of your fathers, has given you?" - Joshua 18:3
The concept of generational blessings and inherited graces is woven throughout Scripture. God identifies Himself as the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, emphasizing the continuity of His covenant across generations. Just as the tribes of Israel inherited specific blessings and callings, so too do we inherit spiritual gifts and abilities through our bloodlines.
In many cultures, particularly Jewish culture, families often operate within specific vocational graces. We see this exemplified in Jesus, who, following his earthly father Joseph's trade, was a carpenter. These inherited abilities aren't merely coincidental; they are gifts placed within our DNA by God.
My personal journey of discovering my purpose led me to explore the traits and talents within my family lineage. On my mother's side, I observed a strong business acumen shared by my mother, her sister, and brother. They possessed a natural aptitude for finances, risk-taking, and navigating the business world. Through prayerful reflection, I recognized this as a grace embedded in our family's DNA.
On my father's side, my grandfather and his sister were traditional healers. A friend shared a theological insight: families with this background are often called to healing ministry, but the enemy can twist this gift for his purposes. This prompted a season of repentance for my bloodline's lack of understanding and a declaration to redeem this trait for God's glory in future generations.
I also repented for instances where my mother's side of the family might have fallen short in righteous business practices, impacting their offerings to God. I then sought God's specific calling for my life and received confirmation through dreams: healing ministry and business!
Interestingly, I've noticed that these inherited graces often increase from one generation to the next. This underscores the transgenerational nature of God's work. Just as each tribe of Israel had unique blessings, we must recognize that God's plan unfolds across generations. While environmental factors and training play a role, the foundation of these abilities is often rooted in our DNA.
In today's world, children have more freedom to explore various career paths. However, the biblical model emphasizes the passing down of skills and trades. Think of families where a great-grandparent started as a tailor, and generations later, their descendants have built an empire around that skill. God's pattern is transgenerational. When we shift our perspective beyond our individual lives and embrace God's generational view, we become less self-centered and more intentional about building a legacy for those who come after us.
Have you taken the time to identify the graces within your bloodline? It's time to call them forth, not only for your own life but for the lives of your children.
A Prayer:
You are the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, the God of generations. We acknowledge that you work your purposes through families, just as you did with the patriarchs and the tribes of Israel. Our family line has been called to a redemptive purpose, and you have bestowed graces and strengths upon us to fulfill that purpose. You desire to manifest yourself uniquely through our bloodline. Where we have operated in ignorance, Father, forgive us. We turn from ignorance to enlightenment. We seek your face, Father, that we may understand the calling upon our bloodline and begin to operate in the graces of that calling. Guide us, show us, Father.
Your Word says in Jeremiah 33:3 to call upon you, and you will show us great and unsearchable things about our family line, our redemptive purpose, things we have not imagined. Thank you, Father, for you are the Good Shepherd who leads us on paths of righteousness into our calling. In Jesus' name, Amen.
The Challenge:
Create a family tree.
Trace the traits and talents within your lineage.
As led by the Spirit, begin to speak into being the traits you desire to see in your baby/children, aligning with the graces in your family.
Document these discoveries and declarations to pass down through generations.
