Your baby is growing quickly! Crown to rump, they measure around 7-9 cm (3.0-3.5 inches) and weigh about 35 grams (1.25 ounces). Facial expressions are becoming more refined – your little one can now frown, squint, and even make sucking motions with their mouth! The body is growing faster than the head, making the baby look more proportionate. Fine hair (lanugo) is starting to appear on the head. The vocal cords are in place, ready for that first cry after birth. The eyes and ears have moved to their proper positions on the face, and the palate is closing from front to back. The baby's tooth sockets are forming, preparing for their future teeth. Hair follicles are developing all over the body. The baby's mouth can open and close and is starting to make swallowing and sucking motions. The gullet, windpipe, larynx, and vocal cords are all in place.
